Session 1
Functional coordination I
Colbert reintroduces the ball into practice for short and long-term injuries. With one working player and two servers, these six drills target technical balance, quick feet and passing consistency to reboot footballing coordination following injury.
-
Session 2
Functional coordination II
Building on the previous session’s fundamentals, Colbert ramps up the speed in this one, emphasising ball contact for concentrated periods. The drills target technical coordination in tight spaces with a focus on tempo and technical fluidity.
-
Session 3
Functional coordination III
After upping the tempo on individual drills, Colbert moves the final coordination session into ‘collective connectivity’. Expect high-level passing sequences in tight spaces, fluid pass-and-move combos and precision in timing and accuracy.
-
Session 4
Functional endurance I
Colbert shifts the focus from coordination to endurance, emphasising the intrinsic value of using technical drills to improve aerobic conditioning in unison with technical ability.
-
Session 5
Functional endurance II
Unlike the first part of the endurance phase, this session centres on intensive intervals with a higher tempo, while a greater importance is placed on bursts using anaerobic energy. Here, there are five drills, with 30-second bursts and 1-minute resets.
-
Session 6
Functional endurance III
This session is a natural progression and variation of part II, emphasising longer individual intervals, running without the ball to cover space, providing passing options and getting back into starting positions between bursts of technical interactions.
-
Session 7
Functional speed I
In the final phase, Colbert pushes players to near-maximal speed while maintaining sharp technical skills. Repeated sprints with quick rotational passes challenge attacking speed and footballing awareness, all in game-related situations designed for a fit-for-purpose return from injury.
-
Session 8
Functional speed II
Colbert intensifies the challenge with drills focusing on acceleration, deceleration and directional changes. Players engage in high-tempo interactions, emphasising offensive and defensive transitions.
