By adhering to a learning framework, coach educators can sharpen their instructional methods. In this session, Peacock applies the LEARNS framework to guide the group toward its objectives and places emphasis on the “Active Involvement” pillar of the LEARNS framework to deepen engagement and critical discussion.
Opening presentation
To set the context, Peacock informs the group that they will observe a coaching demonstration later in the day. With this objective in mind, the task is to explore the optimal coaching process using the “6 Es” framework. See below how Peacock uses active involvement to present the context of the session to the student coaches.
Leading the group work
The coach educator splits the class into two groups before setting them off on their task. In this part of the session, Peacock actively engages both groups to promote deeper dialogue around the optimal coaching process, reinforcing reflective thinking and collaboration.
Exchanging group findings
Peacock facilitates cross-group learning by rotating participants between groups. This exchange of ideas allows student coaches to share findings, challenge perspectives, and consolidate their understanding through peer-to-peer engagement.
Final presentation
To summarise and reinforce the learning, Peacock presents on the “6 Es”. Throughout, he connects each element back to the group contributions, highlighting how their insights align with the broader coaching process.
